Highlights from SEG Solar's Houston Manufacturing Plant Grand Opening

As the host, SEG’s Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Jun Zhuge, opened the event by expressing gratitude to all the distinguished guests and officially opening the solar PV module manufacturing facility. He emphasized that the establishment of the Houston factory reflects SEG's unwavering commitment as a 100% American company, showcasing its dedication to building the most advanced fully automated production line in the U.S. Jun Zhuge stated, "We aim to be a true game-changer in the manufacturing industry, boasting the world's longest production line with 100% automation. Our expansive facility is designed to automate the entire process, from raw material processing to the final product."
Jim Wood, the CEO and co-founder of SEG, shared the company's vision and took pride in the company's superior modules and comprehensive post-sale service, backed by rigorous third-party testing. He announced a $4 million investment in a new laboratory to enhance testing capabilities and validate the supply chain. Jim Wood also outlined plans to establish a full vertical supply chain in the U.S., emphasizing, “As Texas becomes the solar capital of the United States, SEG will be at the forefront, powering the future.” He highlighted that by 2027, Texas is expected to surpass California in solar capacity.
Timothy Johnson, Director of Strategic Sourcing - Solar at ENGIE North America, underscored the importance of SEG’s new manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas, noting Houston factory's role as the energy capital and the factory's contribution to advancing a carbon-free future through innovation and sustainability. He praised the factory's role in promoting energy independence and creating domestic manufacturing jobs, describing it as a symbol of collective effort and dedication. Johnson concluded, "This factory doesn’t just build solar panels—it builds a brighter, greener future for us all."
Kelly Berg, VP Solar & EV Charging of Sonepar, expressed her deep honor in celebrating SEG Solar's new U.S. manufacturing operation. She praised SEG for their exceptional product quality, cutting-edge technology, and remarkable cost-effectiveness. Kelly Berg highlighted the seamless and productive partnership between their companies, emphasizing how SEG has been a vital collaborator from the very beginning. She extended her heartfelt gratitude to SEG’s leadership for their steadfast support and dedication, which have been instrumental in achieving this milestone.
Nico Johnson, CEO of SunCast Media and Host & Creator of the SunCast Podcast, shared a personal reflection on SEG's journey, recounting his initial skepticism about the feasibility of domestic solar manufacturing. Nino, CEO of Lightspeed Solar, highlighted the transparency and integrity that define SEG's business practices. He shared an anecdote about his first encounter with Jim Wood, where SEG's commitment to truth and honesty stood out in an industry often challenged by misinformation. Nino praised SEG as a reliable partner in an industry fraught with complexities, noting that their consistency and straightforwardness set them apart from other manufacturers.
Bobby Lieb, President & CEO of the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce, warmly welcomed SEG to Houston, emphasizing the city's reputation as the most business-friendly in the U.S. He expressed gratitude for SEG's capital investment, job creation, and the introduction of talent and technology to the community. Bobby Lieb also highlighted the importance of manufacturing, particularly the value of transforming raw materials into valuable products.
Chase A. Silman, Field Representative for the Office of Congressman Morgan Luttrell, extended the Congressman’s congratulations to SEG for their ribbon-cutting ceremony. Although Congressman Luttrell was unable to attend due to a prior commitment, he ensured that SEG received a commendation from the House of Representatives.
